PW. CHESTER HOTEL EXTERIORS 24Winning paintings of The Chester Hotel’s art competition will feature at pop-up art extravaganza

Aberdeen’s luxury hotel, The Chester Hotel, is inviting children to enter their art competition in order to raise money for people with cancer. The winning designs will be displayed at Maggie’s pop-up gallery, taking place at The Chester Hotel, on Tuesday 15th and Wednesday 16th November. Guests will be invited to bid on the artwork, with all proceeds going to Maggie’s Aberdeen.

Children are invited to create a painting of their interpretation of ‘a beautiful day in Aberdeen’ by 5pm on Wednesday 9th November. There will be one winner for each category; 5-11 years-old and 12-16 years-old. The winning pictures will be framed and displayed at the pop-up gallery where guests can blind bid on the paintings, with all proceeds going to Maggie’s Aberdeen. The winning children will also receive a Sunday Brunch meal for four at award-winning IX Restaurant, so they can celebrate with family.

The pop-up art extravaganza will feature over 50 works from local and internationally renowned artists, ranging in price from £50 - £15,000. Works featured include those from Scottish artists Iain Faulkner and Gerard Burns.

Gillian Wood, owner of The Chester Hotel, says: “We are delighted to support Maggie’s Aberdeen and encourage kids to get involved. As well as raising money for local people with cancer, they will also have the chance to show off their artistic skills and see their painting feature alongside the work of established artists.

“We’re very excited to see the different types of paintings the budding artists will come up with!”

Susan Sutherland, Centre Head at Maggie’s Aberdeen, says: “We are extremely grateful to The Chester Hotel for organising this fantastic competition and encouraging local kids to get involved in our pop-up art extravaganza.

“Maggie’s Aberdeen relies on voluntary donations to support and develop its unique, high quality programme of support. The charity’s aim is to make the biggest difference possible to people living with cancer and their family and friends.”

Maggie’s pop-up art extravaganza takes place at The Chester Hotel on Tuesday 15th November (10am – 5pm) and Wednesday 16th November (10am – 8.30pm). Entry is free and visitors will receive a 15% discount to dine in IX Restaurant or IX Bar during the event. The event is being organised by property consultant and publican David Reid and Tony Dinozzi of Wood Group and is being supported by Wood Group and Fifth Ring.
